People had not even heard about plastics 100 years ago – they did not exist! Now lots of our everyday objects that used to be made of metal or wood are made of plastic. It’s very useful stuff but there are also hazards associated with them.

Find out how to identify the many different types of plastic and how they are made. We can even try to make some plastic in the laboratory

This topic covers a considerable breadth of scientific study beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum at Key Stage 2 - Properties and Changes of  Materials.

Pupils will have every opportunity to experience working in a modern, well equipped laboratory and this is intended stimulate their interest in Science.
