Description

The Centre for Water Systems (CWS) is proud to be celebrating its 25^th anniversary in August 2023 and will be hosting a two-day celebration event to mark this special occasion: ‘Advances in Water Research & Innovation: 1998 to 2023 and beyond’.

This event will take place at the University of Exeter's Streatham Campus from Thursday 31^st August to Friday 1^st September 2023. On Day 1, they will celebrate their notable achievements over the past 25 years and on Day 2, they will look forward together to the next 25 years.

All past and present CWS members – including staff, postgraduate research students (PGRs) and visitors – and academic and industrial colleagues are invited to join them in their celebrations.

The outline schedule is as follows:

Arrival lunch & registration (12:00 PM start)
Session 1: 25 years of CWS - Welcome address and talks from CWS directors/founders, focused on the history of the Centre and our research, collaborations, achievements and more.
Afternoon break
Session 2: My time with CWS - Talks from distinguished CWS alumni - both within academia and industry - focused on their time at CWS and how this has helped shape their careers.
Evening barbeque

Friday 1^st September 2023

The outline schedule is as follows:

Session 3: Research for the next 25 years - Talks from current CWS staff and PGRs, focused on their research area(s) and future water-related challenges.
Morning break
Session 4: Hot topics - parallel workshops - Parallel workshops focused on key future water-related challenges.*
Lunch & poster session
Session 5: The way forward - Feedback from workshops, looking forward, awards ceremony and closing remarks (approx. 16:00 PM finish).

Think Green!

Think about how you will get to Exeter – are you minimising CO2 by, for example, using public transport or car sharing
Bring your own reusable cups and bottles
Try to avoid bringing / using any single use plastic items (especially plastic water bottles)
Try vegetarian/ vegan food options – if you don’t normally, you’ll be in for a treat
Think about food portion size and see if you can avoid leaving waste on your plate
Make use of the venues recycling facilities

Get away from the conference at points, preferably outside on the stunning campus for fresh air and try to make it ‘device free’
