Shackleton Conference 2023
Blue Carbon: Transfer and storage of carbon in nearshore and offshore shelf sea environments
28th September 2023 at the Geological Society, Burlington House, Piccadilly, London
The third Shackleton Conference organised by the Marine Studies Group of the Geological Society will focus on the geological aspects of Blue Carbon.
We’ll be looking for abstracts related to any of the session topics below, especially in the context of the role of Blue Carbon ("biologically driven carbon fluxes and storage in marine systems that are amenable to management" (IPCC AR6)) as a climate change mitigation strategy.
- The influence of offshore infrastructure installation on carbon burial and release.
- The role of nearshore ecosystems in carbon burial and release.
- The fate of terrestrial carbon in the shelf seas.
- Carbon biogeochemistry in shelf sea environments.
