2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the University of Exeter student radio station – now known as Xpression FM.

As so many students, who are now alumni, have at one time been a part of the Xpression FM broadcasts, we in the alumni office are working alongside the Student Station Manager to celebrate this milestone year with events taking place on campus on Saturday 7th February 2026.

‘In conversation with’ Panel event and Q&A

2pm to 3.30pm - Peter Chalk building, Newman Green lecture theatre.

We will be hosting a ‘in conversation with’ panel event and Q&A with the following alumni, speaking of their time on the radio station, how it has helped them to where they are now in their career, and hopefully some funny stories along the way!

• Jon Kay (Politics, 1992) - TV presenter, BBC Breakfast and BBC News

• Ted Kravitz (Politics, 1996) – TV presenter, Sky Sports Formula 1

• Simon Clark (PhD Mathematics, 2018) – Science Communicator, Video maker, Podcast creator, and author.

• Simon Vigar (Politics, 1991) - Royal Correspondent, ITN/Channel 5 News

Evening celebration event

6.30pm to 9pm – Forum Building, Forum Kitchen.

Complementary drinks and canapes will be served on arrival, then there will be a cashless bar to use for the rest of the evening for you to purchase your own drinks. This will be a great opportunity to network with fellow alumni, and current students who are members of the radio station.

You can book to attend both, or just one of these events – both are free to attend.

We would also like to create a digital pin board for the event, so do please share anything you have from your time as part of the student radio station by emailing pictures etc to: d.watson@exeter.ac.uk

If you are travelling back to campus for this event and need overnight accommodation, do check on our website for various discounts that the Alumni have access to for hotels in Exeter - https://www.exeter.ac.uk/alumnisupporters/benefits/discounts/
